Idea: Huge stained glass dome for Victoria square.
A huge contempory stain glass dome suspended several hundred metres over Victoria square would be pretty unique. The dome and colours could reflect our aboriginal and recent heritage, colours of the land and blue of our sky's and the shapes of the Olga's and Uluru. Underneath a huge paved plaza artwork of aboriginal and recent heritage.
Underground beneath the square the worlds largest collection of Aboriginal heritage and art. The east/west traffic under grounded as well and deep down provision for the eventual Victoria square rail tube station as part of the proposed
Adelaide underground. This would be an attraction to rival the opera house and make Adelaide the natural tourist gateway to the outback. Think bold 2-3 billion should do (only the price of a couple of submarines an will live for ever)

The plaza created would become the real centre of Adelaide a unique all-weather place to meet, gather hold festivals and markets. This revitalization would bring new life to the square, the central market and a new business, residential and tourism in the area.
Given closing the square was deemed too difficult by so many, I cant imagine a cover over a square is the solution when something far more simple would have a bigger use, impact for so much less money
I like in theory BUT do we really want a totally enclosed area?
I agree that Adelaide is in need of more tourist attractions. I have been to the Montreal Biosphere which from memory was some distance from central Montreal. I was willing to make the journey because the structure was so incredible.
Yeah, I saw that Simpsons episode too. Would be funny though - I suppose the city with balls is better than city of churches!
